Class Information

I am very excited to begin a new school year teaching reading, writing  and social studies.  We will have reading every day and students can expect to have a 30 minute social studies lesson 2 times per cycle.  We will also have ROAR 3 times per cycle and during that time, we will focus on the individual needs of each student and provide interventions or enrichments accordingly.

Our first unit in reading is going to involve student books clubs and we will be reading fiction.  In the classroom, we will also focus on vocabulary and grammar skills and occasionally, this will also be a part of homework.  We will regularly use digital tools such as google classroom, Kahoot!, Gimkit, and Nearpod.  I do try to keep homework to a minimum, but you can expect for your child to have a reading or a writing homework assignment each week. That will always be due on the last day of the week, but I do try to break it down into manageable chunks.

Each day at the beginning of the school day, the students will complete their morning work and that it also due on Friday. I ask that the students turn it in before class starts on Friday monring.  (Same with homework.) If a student does not complete their work, you can anticipate me contacting you sooner rather than later, not as a punishment, but to keep you in the loop.  If a student does not complete their homework, they will stay indoors for one recess period to complete it. All children will have at least one recess period per day.  On the flip side of the homework issue, if you ever find that your child is struggling with a particular assignment, please do not stress out over it.  I do not want to create school stress at home.  If you find that they are not able to make progress on that work within 10 to 15 minutes of true effort, please drop me an email and I will help them understand the work rather than causing frustration.

I am looking forward to a fantastic school year.  Please contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Conference time is fast approaching.  You can schedule your conference through Skyward, or if you are having difficulty, you can call the school office and they can assist you.  You are only able to schedule a conference with your child's homeroom teacher, but if you wish to speak with me about reading, I will make myself available.  I will post all my free slots on a paper outside my classroom door and I am happy to speak with anyone who would like to have a conference. If you would like to do a telephone conference, I am happy to arrange that also.  Please let me know if you would like to speak with me.
