This Monday, 12/18, we will be reviewing Unit 4.  The test will be exactly like the review.  The students will be taking the Unit 4 test on Tuesday.

Christmas Ornaments!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On December 20, 2017, all of the fifth graders at LJM will be making holiday ornaments.  We will begin at 1:30 pm in the cafeteria and finish shortly before dismissal time.  We will be using applesauce and cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and glue to form the dough. Then we will roll out and cut the ornaments using cookie cutters.  We are in need of volunteers to help the students with the process as well as the possible loan of rolling pins.  We will also need parents to help us with clean up.  If there is a special cookie cutter shape you or your child would like to use, they should bring it to school with them that day.  All cookie cutters and rolling pins should be clearly labeled so that we will be able to get them back to the proper owners.

If you would like to help, please let us know so that we can inform the office and expedite the sign in process.  If your child is allergic to any of the ingredients in the ornaments, please let us know that also.  We can provide a full list of ingredients if you have any concerns.  We would love to share this festive time with you.  Please let us know if you are interested in attending by next Friday, December 15, 2017.  We hope to see you then.

Grandparent Visitation

Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your papers for Grandparent’s day.  This is taking place from 9:15 to 11:15 this Friday, November 10.  If you know that a grandparent is planning on attending and has not yet sent in their paper, please do so as soon as possible.  We have found that there is a long backlog of people signing in on the day of visitation.  When the line gets long at check-in the grandparents have less time to spend in the classroom with their grandchildren.  We look forward to seeing many grandparents on Friday!

Cross Country Meet!

The LJM Cross Country Meet will be held on October the 13th.  We will begin at 9:30 and it will probably end around 11:00.  If your child has an inhaler, please send it to school with a doctor's note and don't forget water bottles.  Thank you!!

September 19th Homework

Hi!  The students just completed their benchmark test in math today.  As a result of the test, I moved everything ahead.  Tonight, the students have a paper for homework using the Order of Operations.   Wednesday will be 2.1 and Thursday will be 2.2.   Please ask your child how they are doing in their Khan Academy assignments.  They should be keeping up with them so they don't get too far behind.  Thank you!

Homework for 9/13

Tonight, the students will not have a Homelink to complete.  Some of the students have assignments to finish in Khan Academy, so tonight would be a great time for them to work on those.  They will receive credit for completing these assignments.

Math Test! Unit 1

Can you believe we are going to begin our 4th week of school!  Math is going well and the students are working hard.  We will have our Unit 1 math test on Friday the 15th.  On Thursday we will spend time reviewing.  The students should be looking over the homelinks for practice and completing their Khan Academy assignments.  If they study the review, they should do really well.  Thank you for the great start to our year!

Homework for next week:

The following is the homework for next week, and we will write it in the planners on Tuesday.

Math:  9/5    HL 1.8          Writing: timed writing                    Reading: Read 20 minutes

9/6    HL 1.9                            Everyday Edit                                      Read 20 minutes

9/7    HL 1.10                          timed writing                                      Read 20 minutes

You will notice that there is no written response in reading this week.  We are trying to balance how much writing is part of homework and keep the homework to 50 minutes per evening.  Also, since we will be doing DRAs in reading this week, there is not a specific task to link to a reading lesson.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
