Mr. McClimans- Principal
My name is Todd McClimans and I am excited to be the principal of Larry J. Macaluso Elementary School!
This is my 24th year as an educator. After graduating from Slippery Rock University with bachelor's degrees in both Elementary Education and Creative Writing, I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to teach 5th grade (yes, they do have schools in Las Vegas…though the math curriculum only teaches probability and the students don’t have to count higher than 21). While teaching in Las Vegas, I earned my first master’s degree in Educational Leadership and, more importantly, met my wife and we had our first child. After teaching for six years, my wife and I moved back to Pennsylvania, where I taught for two more years and earned my second master’s degree, this time in Creative Writing (I love going to school and I love earning degrees…more about that later).
I became a principal in the Red Lion Area School District in 2011. In my thirteen years in the District, I have served as principal of Clearview Elementary School, Mazie Gable Elementary School, and co-principal of Larry J. Macaluso. I’ve also been an assistant principal at the Senior High and the Supervisor of Teacher Development, where I worked with new teachers and provided professional development for teachers throughout the District.
I am teaching and learning focused. Other than being a father, the role of teacher is the most important role I’ve ever held and, though I’m a principal, I still call myself a teacher. I am in the final stages of my doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction (see the above comment about loving school!), where I’ve learned to grow as a teacher and a leader of teachers. My career has been focused on connecting with students and finding new and innovative ways to connect students with learning and help them grow as scholars, community members, and human beings.
