History in Education
Dr. Peters started working with students right out of college. After graduating from York College of Pennsylvania with a degree in Criminal Justice, he began working at a juvenile boot camp in the central part of Pennsylvania. It was there that he really learned to respect students for who they are as individuals, not judge them for the things they have done. Dr. Peters has carried this belief with him throughout his career.
Due to circumstances relating to his fight with cancer, Dr. Peters had to leave the juvenile boot camp. He began working with individual students in the York City School District. Shortly after that, he began his teaching career as an alternative education teacher in the York City School District. When that program closed, Dr. Peters became a teacher of students with emotional disabilities in the same district. He stayed in this position for over five years.
Dr. Peters left York City School District to take a job at Central York School District as a Special Education Instructional Advisor for grades K-12. What he enjoyed about this position was working with parents, teachers, and students to help the students become successful in their educational program.
That is what brought him to Red Lion. Starting in 2007, Dr. Peters served as the assistant principal of the Red Lion Area Junior High School. He remained in that position until he became the principal of the junior high school in 2011. Dr. Peters began his role as principal of LJM Elementary in 2014. Dr. Peters truly loves what he does. He feels it is a great honor to work with the students, parents, staff, and community of Larry J. Macaluso Elementary School.
